Ceiling Fans Support

A small amount of movement while the ceiling fan is operating is normal. However, if the movement is noticeable, it is usually caused by either unbalanced blades or the fan not being securely attached to the ceiling. Please check the following troubleshooting tips.

Unbalanced blades:

• All blades are screwed firmly into blade holders.
• All blade holders are tightened securely to the motor.

Ceiling fan not securely attached to ceiling:

• The canopy and mounting bracket are tightened securely to ceiling joist.
  
• The down rod ball is properly seated into the mounting bracket.
  
• The set screws in the yoke or down rod coupling are tightened to the down rod.
  
• The down rod ball set screw is tightened to the down rod.

If ceiling fan movement is still noticeable, try interchanging two adjacent (side-by-side) blades to help redistribute the weight and possibly result in smoother operation.

Clicking sounds are most often caused by a loose blade bracket and/or loose blade holder screws. Please check the following troubleshooting tips:

• All blade bracket and blade holder screws are tightened.
• The canopy screws are tightened.
• The down rod ball is not spinning.
• No obstruction between the down rod ball and the mounting bracket.
• The down rod and the down rod yoke screws are tightened.
• The glass is secure and fully engaged – either by tightening the screws holding the glass shades or by securely twisting the glass shade into place.
• The pull chains are not hitting each other.

All ceiling fans produce a slight humming sound when in use. Loud humming is most often caused by resonance or interference.

Resonance is caused by large surface areas, such as ceilings, vibrating and amplifying the sound produced by the ceiling fan. There should be a slight gap between the motor housing and the ceiling. Common causes of resonance are:

• Contact between the housing and the ceiling. (Most common)
• The mounting bracket or the junction box coming in contact with the ceiling. (Note: There should be a slight gap around the perimeter of the junction box.)
• A ceiling with a stucco or rough finish. This is most common with hugger ceiling fans and can be smoothed by sanding the stucco where the canopy meets the ceiling.

Interference can be caused by the connection between a variable-speed control (such as a slide or dial) and the motor of the ceiling fan. Please check that the variable-speed control that you are using is designed for use with ceiling fans.

Check that your reverse switch is not stuck in the center, as this will keep the fan from turning. If this is not the cause, please contact us for further assistance. It is helpful if you can provide as many details as possible, such as any humming sounds or slowing of speed before the fan stopped functioning.

The cause could be either the light bulb or the wiring above the canopy. First, check to see if the light bulb is working. If this does not resolve the issue, drop down the canopy of the ceiling fan and check to make sure that the blue wire in the canopy is connected to the live wire in your home. Typically, if a light kit has not been previously installed, the live wire is capped off for safety reasons.

Typically, this issue is caused by interference with another fan remote or transmitting device, such as a garage door opener.

Check if your ceiling fan remote control has dip switches. Dip switches can be found in the battery compartment of the handheld remote control and in the receiver located in the fan canopy.

• If your remote control has dip switches:
  • Change the dip switches on both the handheld remote control and the receiver in the fan canopy to different settings than what they are currently set to. Please note, these settings must match each other.
• If your remote control does not have dip switches, turn off the power to the fan and then turn it back on. Open the battery compartment of the remote control and within 60 seconds of restoring power to the ceiling fan, hold down the SET button for 5 seconds to pair the remote with your ceiling fan.

Our ceiling fan light kits are designed to fit most standard 42” to 52” ceiling fans with a center hole in the housing cap.

All receivers should be installed with the curved side facing down from the ceiling. See image below.

If your ceiling fan remote control has stopped working, first check the battery. If this does not resolve the issue, check if your handheld remote control has a set button inside the battery compartment.

• If your remote control has a set button, follow these steps to reset the remote control:
  • Turn off the electricity to the ceiling fan.
  • Turn the electricity to the ceiling fan back on. Within 60 seconds of restoring power, hold down the SET button inside the battery compartment for 5 seconds to pair the remote with your ceiling fan.
• If your remote control does not have a set button inside the battery compartment, check inside the battery compartment of the remote control for the code/dip switches. Make sure that both the handheld remote control and the receiver (in the canopy of the ceiling fan) are both still set to the same code/dip switch settings.

The easiest way to determine if a remote control can be used with your ceiling fan is by how it mounts to your ceiling.

• If your ceiling fan has a down rod, you will most likely be able to install a remote control.
• If your ceiling fan is a hugger/flush mount, you will most likely not be able to install a remote control. Typically, these fans do not have enough space to install a receiver for the remote control in the canopy/motor housing.

Yes. You can install a remote control on a cathedral or sloped ceiling using our cathedral ceiling fan canopy kit (available in brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze). This accessory provides the additional room needed in the canopy to accommodate both the receiver and the slope of the ceiling.

The included wall control is designed to operate only one industrial style ceiling fan.

However, we offer a variable speed rotary wall control that is designed to operate up to 12 Westinghouse Jax ceiling fans.

Yes, you can replace worn or broken fan blades with our replacement fan blades. Each 5-piece set is carefully designed to restore the balance and performance of your existing ceiling fan. For proper operation, you must replace all of the original blades with the new blades.

Our reversible blades feature two complementary finishes, so you can choose the look that best suits your space. The pre-drilled holes are compatible with Westinghouse replacement fan blade arms and fit most 42-inch or 52-inch ceiling fans.

If the pre-drilled holes don’t align perfectly with your fan, easy-to-follow drilling instructions are included for a custom fit.

1. Uninstall the old blades from your fan.
   
   
   
   
2. Line up the old blades with the new blades to see if the two sets of blade hole patterns match. If the blade hole patterns don’t match, resizing is needed. Mark new hole patterns with pencil if needed.
   
   
   
   
3. To maintain blade balance, care must be taken to ensure that the blade is centered with the blade bracket before new holes are drilled.
   
   
   
   
4. Use 3/16” drill bit to custom fit the blade hole pattern desired.
