How can we help you?

GENERAL ELECTRICAL WARNING

Installation or modification of any electrical products requires knowledge of electrical systems. If you are not qualified, do not attempt to install, remove or modify your electrical product; instead, contact a qualified electrician. Risk of fire or electrical shock.

Installation

Be cautious when adjusting the length of the cord. It is important that no damage occurs to the insulation on the internal wires. These steps should only be performed by someone experienced with electrical wiring. If you are not experienced with these steps, please contact a qualified electrician.

  1. Remove the wire connectors that connect the wires from the end of the cord to the wires from the outlet box (if applicable). Make sure to note which colored wires are connected in each wire connector so they can be reconnected correctly.
  2. Loosen the screw in the strain relief until the cord slides easily, being careful not to completely remove the screw. Slide the canopy down the cord until the pendant is at the desired height. Tighten the screw in the strain relief until the cord is secured in place.
  3. Cut the excess cord approximately six to seven inches (6”-7”) above the canopy.
  4. Leaving at least one inch (1”) of outer insulation above the canopy, carefully cut through the outer insulation of the cord, being careful not to damage the inner insulation. Remove the outer insulation. Strip the inner insulation from the end of both wires, leaving approximately one-half inch (½") of wire exposed.
  5. For cords with identical inner insulation, identify the tracer lines on the new ends of the inner wires to match the labels on the original ends and connect to the house wiring as described in the appropriate step.

Some light fixtures have SPT wiring instead of black and white wiring. With SPT wiring, the wires are not identified by a black (hot) wire and a white (neutral) wire. Instead, they are identified by the texture of the plastic sheath around each wire. The hot wire has a smooth side, while the neutral wire has a ribbed sheath. The smooth wire should be connected to the black (hot) house wire and the ribbed wire should be connected to the white (neutral) house wire.
